Dear Parents,
We welcome March with open arms! The snow was a blast, but it is comforting to know that spring is around the corner. This month is going to be full of
exciting things. In Math, we will continue exploring multiplication. The students have been doing wonderfully; please continue practicing at home.
A great website for reinforcement is www.multiplication.com. They have games, flash cards and quizzes to help students practice.
In Science, we will begin chapter 6 on “Energy”. We will identify heat as a form of energy that flows from warmer things to cooler things. We will discuss examples of ways heat can change matter, as well as explore light and explain that light is energy.
In Social Studies, we will continue working on the regions of the United States. We are currently working on the Northeast region and will explore the Southeast region next. Students are building information on each region in their social studies folders. When we complete the United States, students will be assigned a report on the state that interests them most.
In Language Arts, we are almost finished our theme, “Good Neighbors”. Our next and final theme will be “Celebrate our World”. We are breezing through our spelling words and packing our conversations with new vocabulary words. Students will concentrate on their next book report which will be on a biography. Directions and format will be sent home very shortly.
In Spanish, the third graders will continue to learn household vocabulary. They will learn the names for various rooms found in the home as well as the names for many items found within those rooms. In grammar, the students will be introduced to properly expressing possession using "de" (of).
Exciting things going on include: Bowling for Books, from 6-8pm, and Dr. Seuss Day, March 2nd, with a school-wide reading event. The Scholastic book fair will be from March 8th through March 12th. The third grade will be assigned a time to shop, information will be sent home and parents are encouraged to take a look as well. Parent conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, March 10th and Thursday March 11th, between 3:15 and 6:00. Lower School Grandparents’ day is Tuesday, March 16th at 10:00am; students look forward to showing off their classroom to grandparents and have been preparing a short presentation with Teacher Anna. Lastly, March 18th is Coffee and Tea with Teacher Rose and Teacher Michelle at 8:30am.
I hope everybody had a chance to stop in to see Teacher Ginny at “Move Up” night. The students are looking forward to moving up to fourth grade. We have come a long way; however, we still have a lot of work to do! Keep up the good work!
In Friendship,
Teacher Devon
