Happy Summer
Summer is almost here! We have had a very fun and exciting year, and I hope that everyone’s summer is just as fun and exciting.
To ensure their success, I support summer reading, writing and math activities. Remember that you can find learning
opportunities in everyday events. Encourage leisurely daily reading at the pool, beach or in the yard. Practice math
skills and facts while driving. Encourage post cards or pen pal letters to me or other classmates. Journal writing is
another way to practice writing skills.
Our county library has programs and incentives for summer reading. Have your child choose titles of interest, and use
reading levels as a guide only. Encourage trips to the library to explore different titles and genres.
I have found a book at Barnes and Noble that is great for reinforcing skills over the summer. The book is called,
"Flash Kids: Summer Skills for the Child Going into Fourth Grade" (ISBN- 1411403479). There are also many educational
websites that are fun. www.rif.org is a great source for reading and writing activities. www.Funbrain.com and
http://www.internet4classrooms.com/assistance.htm are excellent sources for practicing math facts. Don’t forget to
practice those multiplication and division facts!
A special note to parents and students:
I have enjoyed our time spent together, and I would like to thank all of you for making this a special year.
I feel truly blessed to have been part of your educational experience. I would also like to say "Thank you"
for all of your support through the year. I am so very proud of this class. They have come such a long way
this year! It has been a pleasure to teach each and every one of them!!
