MARCH 2010

We will kick off the month by participating in activities on March 2 that will commemorate the 106th birthday of Dr. Seuss. Pre-K will have a great time on this day as they wear pajamas, listen to their family Friday buddies reading many Dr. Seuss books to them, and watch some Dr. Seuss videos. This school-wide activity is a fun way to reconnect with our community while reinforcing many academic skills.

Our first letter of the month will be M for March. During this month, Pre-K will be learning about famous artists such as Degas, DaVinci and Van Gogh during our Art Unit. They will have a chance to create art forms such as still life, portraits and landscapes. Pre-K will be talking about the letter S for sculptures and Spring and the letter I for Inventions. The class will study sculptures and inventions and have a chance to use different materials to create these works of art. The class will learn the letter E for Eric Carle, and compare many of the collages found in his books. This unit will be a great way to experience art, math and science in a different and creative way!

The children will be getting more science exposure when we start our third and final science workbook for the school year, Learn About Plants. And to coincide with this new workbook, Pre-K will be learning the letter O for Outside, Our World and Opposites. For Math, the class will be spending half of the month gearing up for the 100th Day of School celebration on Feb. 24. Pre-K will be participating in various activities related to this big number. Also, Pre-K will be reinforcing their counting, sorting and number recognition skills when exploring the value of various types of money when discussing Presidents.

Have a marvelous March!
