June Happenings for K1
Dear Parents,
It has been a pleasure teaching your children this year. I have enjoyed watching them blossom and grow. Although summer is a time for "fun in the sun", I would like to make a few suggestions for maintaining your children’s skills over the summer so that they make a smooth transition into first grade.
The library is an excellent place to find books that they can read. Phonics based books, such as the Dr. Seuss series, are easy for the children to read. It is a good idea to continue practicing with the flashcards and stories that I have sent home throughout the year. These will help strengthen their "blending" skills. As always, continue to ask questions periodically about the stories that they are reading.
Continue to practice their math skills as well. The children can help you count change when you are shopping. When sitting at the beach, have them count how many people are swimming in the ocean. Addition and subtraction practice can be done through every day situations.
Encourage your children to continue to practice writing upper and lower case letters. These are often forgotten over the summer. Please place emphasis on b´s and d´s, since children tend to mix them up.
Although it is easy to go to the store and purchase a workbook, they are not necessary. Have fun with your children and get your "creative juices& flowing to come up with some exciting ways to learn over the summer! It is their vacation, and they do need some time to relax.
As always, thank you so much for this special year with your children. I will miss them all so much. Have a safe and happy summer!
In Friendship,
Teacher Allison
