February 2012

In Kindergarten this month, there are so many great things happening that we are just bursting at the seams to let you know!

In Language Arts, we will be working on our letter books M, P, V and W. We will be adding more sight words to our growing list, as well as some pretty cool stories that we are reading all by ourselves! We have broken into three reading groups to develop our keen reading skills. We will also continue our journey with our friend Junie B. Jones as she takes us along through her crazy times in Kindergarten.

In math we will be working on the calendar, learning how to tell time to the hour, and counting money. We will learn the coins and their values as well as the dollar values. This is a very exciting time in Kindergarten! This unit is one of the most challenging, yet most rewarding.

In social studies, we will discuss Black History Month and famous African American leaders. On Groundhog Day we will wait and see if Phil sees his shadow! Let's hope for an early spring! Valentine's Day is always a favorite, so we will learn about the origin of the holiday and why we celebrate it today. We will also learn about good dental hygiene since it's Dental Health Month. The 100th Day of School will be celebrated on February 22nd, barring any snow days. We look forward to seeing just how long 100 (preschooler) feet is. We will enjoy a snack that has been counted out with 100 of something as well. Our activities will center on the number 100 all day long.

In science, we will continue our Life Science unit on animals. We will explore how they stay safe and adapt to their environment. We will also understand how animals grow and change as they mature. We will round it out with the relationships between people and animals.

Peace & Love,
T. Annie & T. Laura
