K-1 Happenings for March

We start March off with Dr.Seuss Day on the 2nd. This will be pajama day and we will get together with our fifth grade buddies to enjoy some Dr. Seuss fun! Don’t forget about our field trip on the 25th. Here is what you can expect academically this month:

Reading: We will be working on Letterbooks W, K and Q, and J. The children will continue to write sentences in their weekly journals. We will read new, challenging stories and practice the correct formation of our letters. Remember to practice the flashcards at home daily. The children are becoming excellent readers!

Math: This month we will learn about geometry and shapes. From there, we will work with addition and subtraction with numbers through 10. They will learn the terms “more” and “fewer”. We will explore number relationships, learn how to join groups, and write addition and subtraction sentences.

Science- We will begin our next unit, “A Home called Earth.” In this unit the children will be exploring rocks, water, and the soil under their feet. It is going to be messy, but loads of fun!

Social Studies: This month we will be talking about the land we live in. The children will look at different bodies of water, as well as various physical features in their surroundings. We then will explore the various gifts that we get from our earth, and discuss what we need to do to take care of them. Also, we will talk about different modes of transportation that we use to get from place to place. Finally, we will talk about St. Patrick’s Day and enjoy making some Irish goodies!

It is going to be a busy, but fun, month!
